WHAT’S IN THAT CIGARETTE?

Well folks I have been a very busy bunny and neglected my msn space for long enough.  So I thought I would be boringly helpful again

The no-smoking ban has been going on in Scotland for a while now, not sure for how long  exactly, as I don’t get out that much these days and of course I no longer smoke.  However, the times I have been out it felt  like heaven.  Being able to sit and have something to eat or a chat with my pals, not having to struggle for a breath and of course, because of the ban in all pubs and restaurants, my choice of venues has grown.  Before I had a couple of places that I could visiit but that was it.

Before I was diagnosed with having copd (emphysema)  I used to smoke, but did try to be considerate, especially in bus shelters.  However, when I look back and really be honest with myself, I was not that considerate in other places or situations.  Anyway I digress.  I had to stop smoking or the copd would progress at a faster rate, who knows, I may not have been able to write this had I continued.  I gave up in 2002.  Luckily for me my doctor’s surgery had a no – smoking clinic for those patients wanting help in giving up.  Some were offered tablets, others chewing gum, but I decided to do it cold turkey.  However I was given several pieces of paper to read and digest and the first one shocked me that much, I decided to use it as my own weapon against lifting another cigarette.

I believe that In England the No Smoking ban will be happening in July this year.  I do hope this blog and the ones to follow will help you through any withdrawl symptoms, and I wish you well.

    Hi Margaret! :o)

    I\’m so glad you\’re back – I was starting to worry!!! :o)

I\’ve almost never smoked (I was \’persuaded\’ to try a puff of Cannabis and I now know what smoke inhalation feels like!!!) and it beats my why people do it!

Grandpa gave up smoking before Cancer sowed its seeds: He took up chewing matchsticks and died of Dutch Elm disease… :o)

Both my parents smoked, so as a kid I was a passive smoker and I\’ve had three friends die of smoking related disease: Mary of throat Cancer; Dianne of lung Cancer; and Bert of COPD.

All continued to smoke even as they died.

More of my friends still smoke than have given up so I am sure to lose more of them as time goes by and I still have to inhale their toxins even though every door in my place is marked with no smoking signs.

In the base Molly (78) continues to smoke even though it is banned while the others smoke in the hallway.

Lillian has quit and is feeling healthier, Helen had to quit as she has COPD, so I am hoping that they  will improve although Helen struggles to breath so much she scares me.

I hope and pray that you do well hun!

    Love and huggles always:

    Prenin.

P.S if this repeats then apologies – the server has been doing it to me all night!!!

Hi MargaretNice of you to drop by my bit of internet room. I read your tale re: CPOD and you have my sympathy. That\’s not meant to sound patronising, but though I don\’t know anyone with COPD, I do know how serious problems can be due my family having cancer. However, you seem to be picking up, and long may it continue, and I hope you continue your recover. The ban on smoking will benefit you greatly. Now just be sure you don\’t drink to much….  🙂 Take care.Paul.

    Hi Margaret
many thanks for the lovely St Patricks day pic.
Well done on the no smoking blog – I packed up 3 years ago after 25 years of smoking and I cant wait for tha total ban in England. It was the best thing I ever did and I wouldnt start again at any price.
It always amused me when I visited my local hospital to see all the "ill" patients standing outside smoking regardless of the weather – some were even hooked up to drips, and with missing limbs!!!!!!!! – now that is just crazy.
So roll on July – for their sakes.
    I hope you are well
    Take care
    love Debbie xx
